Every year Sunrise hosts a range of events to give back to the community and encourage Calgarians to get involved and help those in need.
If you would like to be involved or volunteer at one of our community events, we'd love to hear from you.
Pay It Forward
One of Sunrise Community Link’s mandates, through the Community Connector Initiative, is to build the capacity of residents and support community change. With your help, we would like to bring some positive light to the Forest Lawn community and highlight the amazing activities going on in the area.
With this in mind, Sunrise Community Link, in partnership with United Way of Calgary & Area and Action Dignity host a quarterly Pay It Forward Community Action Day event as part of the Greater Forest Lawn Community Connector Initiative. We are out in the Greater Forest Lawn Community in teams of 3-4 participants to spread kindness and care!!!
This event will bring together community members from a variety of backgrounds and experiences who desire to give back to the community with their time and/or resources.
Community Conversation Circle
Sunrise Community Link holds the Community Conversation Circle event every month at different locations around the Greater Forest Lawn area. The CCC is a great opportunity for residents of the Greater Forest Lawn community to get together and meet new people and share their ideas and stories with other members of their community.
Sunrise first started working on the idea of the Community Conversation Circles (CCC) in the Fall of 2014. The idea came out of a conversation with staff, partner agencies and community members that focused around creating space where all members of the community (Service Providers, Residence, Business Owner) could come together and talk about what mattered to them. In this space people would create lasting relationships and become willing to engage in opportunities to support the broader community and give back to others in need. Sunrise was passionate about engaging people in taking control of their lives and having a voice in issues that impact them directly.
Topics of discussion range from open conversation driven by participants to focused circles that are meant to have an impact. At this circle we will be talking about supporting community, paying it forward and acts of kindness!! If you've never been to a Community Conversation Circle before, then we'd love for you to join us for the evening.
A special thanks goes out to our partners United Way Calgary and Area and Action Dignity for helping us to put on this event as part of the Greater Forest Lawn Community Connector Initiative
Sunrise Community Link hosts an Annual “Rise and Shine” Stampede Breakfast that gets bigger and better each year.
Sunrise Community Link invites a number of community agencies and partners to participate in our event. We also have the assistance of our many volunteers in the community and the fabulous group from Youth Central to help organize and implement the day.
For the many community members who come out to socialize and experience something culturally different, this Stampede Breakfast promises to be a day to remember, filled with entertainment, food, fun and games for the family!
