BASIC NEEDS FUND
The Basic Needs Fund is an emergency financial assistance fund, intended to help people out of an unforeseen crisis. The fund can be used to pay for; rent arrears, utility arrears, damage deposit, or first months rent when moving into a new premise.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
1.) CONFIRM YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD
In order to apply you must be living in, or moving into, one of the communities that Sunrise serves in Greater Forest Lawn in the South East of Calgary.
2.) CONFIRM YOUR SUSTAINABILITY
In order to apply you must have a monthly household income that is high enough to cover your expenses under normal circumstances.

WHAT ARE THE TIME FRAMES?
Once you have submitted a complete application to the Basic Needs Fund, and have been accepted into the program, it can take between 1 to 2 weeks for funding to be dispersed.
HOW CAN YOU APPLY?
3.) SUBMIT AN APPLICATION ONLINE
If you are eligible to apply for the Basic Needs Fund program and we are currently accepting applications, then please click the link below to start the application process to be considered for the program.
Funding is released on a monthly basis.
The average approved funding amount is $500. While we will always try to assist, we may not always be able to cover full amounts requested.
Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will be approved for the fund.
Funding is dispersed to eligible applicants on a first come, first served basis.
Your application is not complete until you have provided Sunrise will all required documents.
Successful applicants are encouraged to undergo Financial Literacy and Empowerment, or Life Skills programming;
WHAT DO I NEED FOR MY APPLICATION?
Once you have started your application process, you will need to provide Sunrise with the following documents to support your application.
Photo ID for yourself (and your spouse/common-law partner if applicable)
Copy of rent report or lease agreement
Copy of your utility statement (if applicable)
Copy of eviction or disconnection notice
Copy of most recent monthly bank statement
Copy of 2 most recent pay stubs (or if newly employed a letter from your employer stating your pay amount)
HOW CAN I SUBMIT MY DOCUMENTS?
Sunrise will accept documents emailed to us in the following format:
Original soft copies (E.g. PDF of your statements from online banking)
Scan of originals
Picture of originals (Images taken with your phone will need to be clear and readable)
